“It’s not just our parking lot. When the streets and lots around us are falling apart, people think the whole neighborhood is neglected,” the business owner told Saguaro Asphalt leadership. “Customers avoid it, kids play less outside, and it just feels unsafe.”
The company’s first pilot project resurfaced a cracked, uneven parking lot at a Casas Adobes community center. Following completion, families reported feeling safer, foot traffic increased, and neighbors praised the improved appearance and accessibility of the space.

Additional goals include engaging 100 percent of crew members in volunteer activities at least once and tracking measurable outcomes like improved safety, accessibility, and neighborhood feedback for every project.
Project selection prioritizes areas with the greatest community need, active local engagement, high foot traffic usage, and potential for long-term impact. The approach ensures each project makes a substantial difference rather than simply addressing surface problems.
“Three years from now, success would look like Tucson neighborhoods with smoother, safer streets and parking lots that families, seniors, and local businesses can rely on every day,” Heredia said. “People would talk about their streets and lots as welcoming, safe, and vibrant, not just functional, showing that asphalt can truly strengthen community well-being.”
